UNUMC currently has around 160 members, of which there are many who are keen and active. These include those who climb only at the indoor wall, through to those who can be difficult to track down due to their sustained absences from Nottingham!
At the start of the academic year the club runs 4 "Freshers' Meets" to some of the more friendly crags of the Peak District. These
aim to allow new members to experience what the club is all about and what to expect from future trips. The club also has regular trips away
throughout the year. These include to the nearby Peak District, North Wales, The Lakes, Pembroke, Cornwall and the South Coast to name but a few
venues. These trips are enjoyed by members of all standards from the club, from those who have never climbed before through to those who have
climbed E7.
On the weekends when there are no club trips planned many people make their way to climb at various places around the UK. The club being a good place to find other like-minded people to climb with.
Outside of term time there are no organised meets, however it is usual that some members of the club travel abroad to explore the climbing
available there. Destinations in the past have included Fontainebleau, Thailand, Morocco, Ceuse, The Alps, The Dolomites, Costa Blanca, El
Chorro, Yosemite, The Verdon and Sardinia.
The social aspect of the club is very strong thanks to the effort put in by the two social secretaries, with perhaps the highlight of the social
calendar being the Annual dinner. This seems to alternate from The Lakes, to North Wales on a yearly basis, and is a chance for the members of
today to meet with members from yesteryear, and experience one of the few remaining traditions of the club; the recital of "The Ballad of Idwal
Slabs by Showell Styles" by the ex-presidents of the club!
The full details about each trip will be posted on the forums nearer the time and all sign-ups will take place in the pub on a Thursday evening. If in doubt, get in contact with the Secretary.
The following bunch of misfits have been democratically elected to represent the wishes of the club! They all have fancy titles but their main job is to get the members of the club out climbing and if that's not possible then at least sat in a pub talking about climbing. If you want to get in contact with the club and don't know who to speak to then an email to the Secretary should be your first move.
