British University Climbing Championships 2010

On March 13th it is the British Universities Climbing Competition at the Climbing Works in Sheffield and we are looking for people to compete for the university.

As in the past we will be holding trials to choose a team and a few reserves who will receive training probably on Wednesdays afternoons/evenings throughout February. In the past the coaching has been done by Dan Bradley, a member of the British Bouldering Team. With any luck this will be the same case this year.

There will be a trial session to choose the team, held at a "mystery" climbing wall outside of Nottingham. Anyone is welcome to try out and we need both guys and girls to compete. The trial will be held next Tuesday (26th Jan) in the evening but if you are unable to make this please get in touch.

Could people either email me or post here so I have an idea of who would like to try out. Once this is done Ill try and arrange it so that everyone has a lift.

Theres no grade range as such its more a case of where you place yourself in terms of ability compared top the rest of the club. There are 8 places on the training, 3 of which I've already filled with people who have competed well for the club in the past. That means if you see yourself anywhere near the top 5 people in the club its worth a shot... and even if you dont its only a bit of fun, I wont be taking it that seriosuly so.

Ok as Im feeling pretty ill and the level of interest is relatively low I think we will do this at Notts wall tomorrow evening. Could we all meet at the well at 6.30pm if you fancy trying out.

As I was ill all of last week, I was unable to run trials to choose a team. As time is getting on Ive been forced to choose a team based upon who I think are the strongest climbers. Im sorry to those that feel they have missed out. If we have spare spaces on any of the training over the coming month I will post up on here and anyone who wants to can fill the space.

The comp is this Saturday. I need two people who would be prepared to give up their saturday morning to be route judges at the Works. It involves standing by one of the problems and ensuring that everyone does the problem fairly. Your journey to Sheffield and back will be free so all you have to do is get in a car and then stand by a boulder problem/chat away for a few hours.

Is anyone willing to do it?
