I've just received the terribly sad news that Safeer passed away last week.

I'm not yet aware of the circumstances, only that he died last Wednesday the 14th July. I will update you all as and when I can.

I will pass on our regrets and sympathies to his family on behalf of all of his friends here at the club.

I'm currently at a loss to find words that express my shock and sadness at this news.

I'm so sorry.

I'm saddened to hear this news. Saf was a great guy and someone I had thought I’d be climbing with for years. He was a man I had a lot of respect for and I’ll miss him. I’m glad I have memories of some awesome times with him (Froggatt Valkyrie epic struggle! and Saf looking damn fine in a dress at the bouldering comp.) and it’s upsetting to think I won’t have any more.

This truly is terribly sad news. I'd been climbing with Saf quite a lot, had lots of fun, he was a great guy. I'd been calling him since last Wednesday to arrange some climbing shenanigans and replace his cam that I broke and I just thought he was too busy. I would have never guessed that anything could have happened to him.

I'm going to miss him and I'm sure I'm not the only one, this was much too early. My thoughts are with his family.

As jes says Im kind of stuck for what to say, the internet seems such an impersonal forum to express your sympathies. It just seems so unfair for someone as young as saf to pass away.

I love seeing the younger members who join this club at the start of the year get into climbing and get as excited about it as I was when I first came to uni. Saf definately fits that description and its to his credit that after less than 6 months he was leading E1, no small achievement (I know hes not the only one to have managed this!) He was great fun to have on the leading course this year, and its a shame he was unable to make it to Spain with us.

I'm sorry that I didnt get to know him better and I'm sorry for any family he leaves behind.

Things like this leave you a bit lost, we'll make sure we all stop and say a few words when we get back. I'm sure his friends and family are going to be doing likewise, but he made a mark on most of the clubs regulars so we ought to make sure we commemorate him for a night one thursday.

I still can't believe he's gone. He was such a friendly guy and an exceptionally talented climber.

If anyone has any photos of Saf could they please email them to me so I can forward them to his parents.

Ill be making a card and sending it round to everyone (in some e-format so everyone can say a few words unless someone has a better idea?). His family would really appreciate hearing from us all and his father in particular would like to thank all of us at UNUMC for making Safeer so happy. He knew how much he loved to climb and talked of the club incessantly back home. So it would be really wonderful if as many of us as possible could take the time to make a tribute in return and show them how much we loved having Saf as part of our club.

If you would like to to post up some of your favourite memories of climbing with Saf, Im sure his family would like to read them also.

Im still finding this hard to digest, as Im sure are others who knew and climbed with Saf, and am not sure I can yet bring myself to write anything as eloquant as I would like. Please feel free to call or PM me if you want to talk.

I was deeply sadden to here of Saf's death, I feel it is especially hard to loose some one so young.
As Tom said it is one of the best aspects of climbing in a club in seeing the progress and development of new members. Saf was a talented climber and I was confident he would do well in the future. He will be sorely missed, and I think like many I regret not knowing him better.
My condolences to his family, and if we all can write something for them it may provide some small comfort.

Pretty much at a loss for what to say. It seems so unfair that such a young, friendly guy could just be gone like that. I was always struck by Saf's generosity, constantly offering lifts to the foundry/various crags. I'm glad that I got to do the leading course with him as he made it such an enjoyable experience. It seems so sad, but oddly fitting that my last memory of him should be of him pouring over a book of french sport climbing he hoped to make use of in the near future. Regards to his friends and family, Adam.

my thoughts are with his family.

i wish i had got to know him better. he was a great young man and a friend to all, with a great enthusiasm towards climbing which had quickly become a big part of his life.

he'll be greatly missed.

Sorry it's taken me a few weeks to get this sorted:

Ive sent an email around to all members RE the card. As we are all over the country can those that would like to be included please email me (at the tritalk address or a PM) with their tributes. It only need be a few words, but if you do have any particular memories I think it would help his family to hear them. Ill print off the comments on the forum for them, but this is an opportunity to pay your respects directly to his family if you wish to do so.

If you could all send them to me over the wknd and Monday that would be great. Ill be printing them all off and sending on Tuesday.
