Annual Dinner 2010

Postby markmac on Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:57 am

I've had a quick trawl through recent posts and I can't find anything, so apologies if I'm repeating someone else.

The club calendar says the Annual Dinner will be in Langdale this year, is that confirmed or could it be somewhere else in the Lakes? Us oldies will need to start thinking about accommodation pretty soon.

Cheers,

mm

Hey Mark/all,
Sorry for the slight delay on getting this thread rolling, originally the AD was going to be at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, but they have let me down so we will now be back at the Sticklebarn Tavern, Ambleside (still on the 6th March as planned).
Ill have prices and further details to follow within the next few days.

Alternative accomodation to the Sticklebarn bunkhouse (which is 2 rooms of 6 people) for those who are interested:
The nearby National Trust campsite at Great Langdale which as well as your standard tent pitch also has (insulated!) 2 man camping pods for £30.
Also there is the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, whose prices start from £51 pp pn for B&B. Id recommend emailing them as their phone line seems to be down at present.
Both venues are within walking distance to the Sticklebarn.

Whoop Whoop for the AD.

Just to clarify is the sticklebarn bunkhouse (2 x 6ppls) where the club is staying or an option for ex's also?

Thanks for replying so quickly Jes - I know the delights on AD organising #-o

No problemo, was on my to-do list for this week anywho.
The club is staying at the Sticklebarn in the bunkhouse and until I get numbers confirmed not really an option for 'ex's due to the limited space. Ill be speaking with Lorna who owns the place tomorrow to confirm prices and exactly what bed space she has. Shall keep you all posted :)

Hooray for the Annual Dinner!
Hooray for Lorna at the Sticklebarn!
Hooray for the Steak and Ale Pie!!

I too share your AD experience. Lorna is pretty brilliant though, super efficient.

Might splash out on the ODG....or will otherwise camp and borrow the mirror in the bunkhouse.

James B, shall we get involved?

The NT site at Langdale also has 2 yurts that will sleep up to six people (direct link not working so click on 'yurts' on the left side bar). Ive requested someone call me back about these as prices listed are per week and I want a daily rate. If enough of you are inclined it could be reasonably good value, particularily novel and potentially as warm as a hotel. And they have fairy lights :-)
For any newer club members (or just confused older ones) who are unfamiliar with the Annual Dinner weekend, there will be a set price for the weekend trip for current club members that will include accomodation at the Sticklebarn bunkhouse, dinner on Saturday night, breakfasts (usual slap up butty and tea) and transportation. I will be able to give you prices shortly.
These alternative accomodation ideas are for those wishing to 'upgrade' or ex members who will need to arrange themselves.

Thanks Jes, this is a splendid amount of information! I shall go away and contentedly book some accommodation, safe in the knowledge that I'll at least be in the right National Park to attend the dinner.

YURT UPDATE! (Pretty sure that's the first time Ive ever said that)

The NT site has yet to secure planning permission for the pods and yurts and cannot take any bookings until it is confirmed. This may be as late as mid february and is just a formality, but Ill be contacted as soon as they are available. I have 'shotgunned' a pod already (again, another first) and advise those who are particularily keen on kipping down with their tribesmen and yaks to contact the site and get on the 'list'.

You've never said 'Shotgunned a pod'?

I'm knee deep over here.

Fairly sure I've not ever 'shotgunned' anything before either. However, I thought I may as well follow the protocol that everyone else on the planet seems to follow when they want to get something before other people do. :P

Where does the concept come from anyway?
