Pete,

It may have changed, but it used to be the case the beginners did have to know how to belay etc before going on club trips. This usually took the form of an induction at the wall if they were complete beginners.

I'm pretty sure it's changed, I got taught to belay by Ali and Helen, whilst Helen was el Presidentina. I had been to the wall previous to that, but bouldering only, nothing roped.

Hi,

I've just joined the club online but I'm a postgraduate so unfortunately i don't think I'll be able to make the wednesday afternoon meets. Would there be any chance of meeting you guys at the climbing centre in the evenings/weekends at all? Would be good to get my induction out the way and get back into doing some climbing!

Cheers,

Mark

What have you done before Mark? You might not need an induction of you know the basics and are willing to sign the wall disclaimer.

Hi

My name is Marcus and I'd like to join your climbing group. I am pg student from NTU and If you accept, I would like to be a member of the club. Can any one of you help me about this?

Hello Marcus :D

Most of the committee are climbing in Cornwall at the moment so it might take a few days to get a more sensible (and knowledgeable) reply, but... as far as I know there shouldn't be a problem with you joining UNUMC. I think there's some paperwork that might be required if you go on club trips. Membership of the BMC or an equivalent organisation would be useful in any case. I don't know if anyone is going to the Johnson Arms tomorrow (see other threads) but if they are, that would be a good place to meet people in the club. Sorry to be a bit vague!

There is a Trent club. Can't find a weblink, but this guy (Steve) should be able to direct you. At any rate, most people will be out of Nottingham until end of September!

And what in God's name is this???

Yeah if you're around next year Marcus and you still want to join, you have to join our SU for £5 I believe, and then join us for (is it £10?). As the others have said, there isn't a lot going on in the remainder of this year!
If you want come and meet us and have a chat about things feel free to come to our leavers' bbq.

HA
that's hilarious!

Divers? My first thought was: how does one diver up Everest? It took me far too long to work out they meant 'diverse'.

I didn't even get that far, I just thought either their grip of English was that bad or the whole website is someone indulging a very unusual sense of humour!
...I'm still sort of torn.

Sweet Jesus, that is one hell of a find! =D>

I clicked one of the links and found this:
"In September 2003 the doors opened for the first nutriment at a University of Nottingham remedial School at Derby/new healing school in the within easy reach city of Derby, contribution a 4 year fast-track postgraduate drug course."

I believe they are talking about my course. The English is so tragically bad I am beginning to wonder if someone has slipped acid into my dinner.

Maybe they copied some information off Wikipedia, used translation software to translate it into some exotic language from one of the more obscure parts of the Indian subcontinent and then used a different bit of software to translate it back again. That's the only explanation, apart from hallucinogenic drugs, that I can come up with.
