Leading Course 2010

Postby Tom on Tue Jan 19, 2010 12:25 am

Its time for the leading course. The plan is to hopefully get a few more people confidently leading in time for Cornwall in the summer.

There are 4 places available but we ask that people can satisfy the following questions in order to do the course:

Do I have a minimum of 6 months outdoor climbing experience?
Can I usually second VS 4c outdoors?
Do I want to / do I feel ready to lead?
Have I got more than 1 year left?
Will I be attending at least half the club meets so that the club can make use of my new skills?

The answer to all of these should be yes, but there has been some flexibility in the past.

The leading course is not a formal qualification, merely an organised means of passing on skills. It is aimed at teaching people to lead single pitch VDiffs safely, so whilst you will learn skills required to lead climb, it will not make you a 'climber', this is for you to evolve into afterwards.

During February there will be four classroom sessions lasting 2 hours each. Following this there will be a weekend in the peak district applying the newly learnt skills and leading.

Can you post up or email me if you would be interested.

Not yet, rather than set the dates I was going to arrange a time once a week that works for everyone so we dont have the problems with abscence we had last year

Places wont necessarily go to those who post up first, they will go on a basis of who is most deserving. I may also be able to take more people depending on how much help I get so keep posting up if you want a place.

Theres been quite a lot of interest in this, several people have emailed me but I feel the 5 people who have posted up here are the people who are most likely to put the skills they learn back into the club as they are the people who attend the most trips. Therefore the following people are on the leading course:

Emma
Zappa
Adam
Greg
Saf

Would you all be free on Thursday evening before the pub to do the first session?
